Mom Gets an Award

I'm in the National Association of Women in Construction and we held our annual Industry Appreciation Banquet at The Club on Thursday, June 28th. I was the committee chair for this event which meant I had to speak in public! Most of you know that I hate to do that, but I made it through (with the help of a couple of drinks!) :-) The awards for the evening were given out and I received the "Member of the Year" award. Deborah also got an award for "Employer of the Year". The Crane family as well as the M. J. Harris family did well!

Basketball at the Beach

Jessica went to basketball camp in Ft. Walton Beach, FL June 10 - 14. She had a great time with her friends and coaches. She also came back with more than basketball knowledge...she met a boy. Check out the pictures below. Her daddy and I are not ready for this. Although she's not old enough to date quite yet, it still doesn't stop the boys from asking! He'll just have to wait 6 months!

Awards Day - Jessica

Today was Awards Day at Jessica's school. She received the Academic Award for English which she was not expecting. She's said all year long that she thought the teach didn't like her. She said that last year about her Math teacher and guess which award she got last year...Math!

She also got another award that caught us by surprise. It was the Academic Award for Career Discoveries, which is an elective class. Any guesses on what Career Discoveries is? You'll never believe it, but the less politically correct term is "WOODSHOP"! This teacher must have just really liked her because out of everyone in the 8th grade who took his class he chose her. He being the same teacher who wouldn't let her use the band saw because he was scared she would hurt herself. Well, maybe he's just trying to encourage her!

Well, since this was the last day of school and she did pass the 8th grade, she is now officially a freshman in high school! Only problem is I'm not old enough to have a kid in high school, at least that's my story!!

Tryouts

Jessica spent last week and this week trying out for both the basketball and volleyball teams. I am happy to report that she made both teams. She is very excited about basketball camp because they will be going to the beach for a few days. I think part of the excitement is because Mom & Dad won't be along on this trip.

Congratulations Jessica!

Congratulations Jessica!!

Last night Jessica received the President's Award for Educational Excellence. Students who receive this award must be in the exit year of the school and must meet two criteria. They must maintain an overall GPA of 90 or higher for all years they attended the school and they must also score at least at the 80th percentile or higher in either math or reading on the Stanford Achievement Test. (Jessica is in at least the 90th on both subjects.) Way to go Jess, we are so proud of you!!
